Branson for chancellor, say MSN Money users

The British public would rather have Richard Branson as chancellor of the exchequer than Alistair Darling or George Osborne, according to a recent poll conducted by MSN Money UK.

In a poll ahead of tomorrow’s Budget, Branson topped a list of nine candidates, including the three men who would like to have the keys to Number 11 Downing Street after the coming general election.

Of the three politicians on our list, only Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesman Vince Cable, who came second, received strong support. Sir Alan Sugar came third, with George Osborne a distant fourth and Alistair Darling tied with Bank of England governor Mervyn King in joint fifth position.

Stephen Hawking received 6% of the vote in seventh position, with Stelios Haji-Ioannou 3% and Robert Peston 2%.
