Ian Baker departs Capital Private Finance
Ian Baker has left his position as sales director of Capital Private Finance, after less than four months in the role, Mortgage Strategy can reveal.
Baker joined the firm in June, having previously worked as sales manager at John Charcol.
The business launched in August as a joint venture between Countrywide and Mortgage Advice Bureau.
It caters for the clients of Countrywide’s premium estate agency brands such as Hamptons International, John D Wood & Co., Faron Sutaria and UK Sotheby’s International Realty.
Baker was tasked with the role of building a new team of advisors to provide specialist financial advice for high net worth clients.
Nigel Stockton, financial services director at Countrywide, says: “A mutual decision was made for Ian to part ways with Capital Private Finance. He has done a great job launching the business and we wish him well with for the future.
“No decision has been made on a replacement for the role as yet, but this will announced in due course.”

A lot of people close to Hamptons knew this would not work as well as they thought, and CPF is clearly struggling with the market being quieter than the first part of the year. Ian is a good guy and I think this shows that MAB and Countrywide have too higher expectation on what CPF will bring to the table.

For the sake of a bit of balance I don’t think Simons comment above should go unchallenged. Capital Private Finance is a brand new start-up company, formed and funded by two of the largest names in UK Estate Agency and Mortgage Advice. The support being shown to those of us with our boots on the ground has been fantastic. The clear opportunity to build and grow a successful career within this business is what has attracted experienced people from big name brokerages to jump on board. As a man of Simons experience will know, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Perhaps the loss of the Hamptons lead source has left Mr Kelly feeling a little sore.
“Sour grape anyone?”

I couldn't agree more with Stephen Chitty. I am sure Capital Private Finance will be a resounding success given time to develop. I feel Simon and his fellow colleagues must be gutted at the loss of the Hamptons lead source. There is such a quantity of sour grapes that they could fill a massive vineyard!
