Name: Bob Hunt
Age: 47
Company: Paradigm Mortgage Services
Job title: Chief executive
Where do you live? Hampton-in-Arden, Solihull

Describe your current job:
I have overall responsibility for the management of Paradigm Partners' mortgage club, Paradigm Mortgage Services.

What were your first and last jobs?
My first job was in the Royal Air Force, where I studied engineering. My last role was director of key accounts at Abbey.

I have been a broker for most of my career. Over the past two decades I've worked for two companies, Hill Samuel Group and Abbey, in a variety of roles connected to the broker sector.

How does your career to date compare with your aspirations when you were younger?
I come from a working class background and don't recall having clear aspirations as a young man. I've worked hard and been lucky.

What has been the defining point of your career and why?
I responded to an advertisement promising a lucrative career in financial services in 1982 and took the plunge, or I'm not sure what I'd have done.

And the most embarrassing?
Cold calling with a telephone sellotaped to my hand.

What work ambition would you like to achieve by retirement?
To have built a profitable and sustainable business that employees say is a great place to work.

How many mortgage payments do you have left?
Forty-nine, but university fees may change that.
