Claims cases can drag on for two years

Natalie Martin
Financial claims cases introduced by brokers could take up to two years to complete, says Carl Wright, director of Cartel Client Review.

Also, brokers should not expect to be updated once they have handed over their clients to solicitors.

Wright says: "Each case is different but financial services cases usually take between six months and two years.

"With anyone but the client, solicitors are bound by Law Society rules and can't discuss it so the broker will not be updated. Once a broker has introduced a client, their involvement in the case is over."

Darren Brown, director at Cheshire Mortgages & Investments, has experienced problems with clients expecting to be updated by him.

He says: "Despite assuring clients I am doing everything I can to help them progress their cases they have totally lost faith in me and any advice I give them."

Brown says he has lost more clients than he's gained since introducing claims business.
