Brokers look forward to a better year

Two-thirds of brokers predict that business will be better in 2010 than 2009, according to Platform Home Loans’ first Intermediary Outlook Survey.

Some 66% of brokers think business will be better than last year, with 74% expecting to see house prices rise by up to 5% in 2010.

Meanwhile, nearly three-quarters of brokers believe the Bank of England base rate will rise to 1% by the end of the year.

But it’s not all good news. Despite their otherwise optimistic outlook the survey reveals that 50% of brokers are worried about the availability of funds in 2010, while 39% believe that dual pricing will continue to be a serious challenge for the intermediary sector.

David Tweedy, managing director of Platform, says: “This research shows that intermediaries are confident the next 12 months will be more positive for the mortgage market and that the broker sector is ready to do business.”
