A meeting of legends

The original idea of Top of the League when we started it was as an industry recognition scheme. At a time when the housing market was not as strong as it has been we wanted to highlight those mortgage brokers who despite the downturn were continuing to shine and make a difference.

And so over the last four months Woolwich’s talent scouts have been hunting out star players and managers in all major networks, clubs and brokerages. Having judged Top of The League since the beginning of the season, the high quality of the nominations has pleased me greatly.

The aim has not been to reward individuals for their relationship with Woolwich mortgages from Barclays but for providing excellent service in their company or community, or going beyond the call of duty with colleagues and clients. The resulting winners have all been excellent examples of individuals within the industry succeeding either with commercial targets or for motivating their colleagues or going that extra mile to raise money for charity. All of them have been the best of the best in our industry.

So the recent lunches we hosted for the winners to date were an opportunity for the legends in one industry to meet legends from another. Ossie Ardiles and Matt Le Tissier were inspiring company and let us in on a few bits of football gossip. Unfortunately, my lips are sealed, but to have your opportunity to quiz your footballing heroes in person, make sure you get involved in TOTL.

It’s been a cracking first half to the season and I’m looking forward to an even better second half.

GETTING RECOGNISED FOR ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE
If you feel that you’ve gone that extra mile for your company, community, customers or colleagues speak to your usual Woolwich BDM and tell them about your achievements, or highlight your achievements to the head of your mortgage club or network. Just send your details to totl@jonathancornell.co.uk, providing your name, company and contact details and we will get back to you about the process of getting nominated for these awards.
