The home buying process in this country needs modernising. HIPs were an attempt to do this, and would have been a success, if a survey had been included.Buying property is the largest single purchase anyone makes in their life yet many go into it with their eyes closed. Potential buyers would benefit from user-friendly surveys and we should move towards a system such as that used in Scotland.

Regarding the Conservative Party’s plan to scrap Home Information Packs, talk about backing the wrong horse.The previous government brought in the HIP legislation and hundreds if not thousands of people went into business to provide this service to buyers and sellers.By scrapping the packs the new government will be making most of those people unemployed, through no fault of their own.So much for supporting small businesses and increasing employment.
