The number of mortgage products on the market has plummeted by 3,000 in May, Trigold reveals. Its June product index shows the number of deals fell by 17% last month. The sourcing system now features 13,992 products, down 2,926 on April and 9,045 on March.

Last week's BBC report on 100% LTV mortgages made me cross. Again, Northern Rock was mentioned as one of the lenders that offered deals at 100% LTV or more to borrowers without mentioning that part of these loans were unsecured. There must be plenty of borrowers with mortgages of 95% LTV or below whose unsecured borrowing by way of credit cards and loans takes their total debt above the value of their properties.
